Geographic location
Tominejo is part of the Colombia Coffee region, 25 minutes from Manizales and 5 minutes from Neira, a municipality in the North of Caldas, also called the "Ciudad del Corcho", a name that comes from a typical sweet made from panela and gelatin, as well as Door of the North of Caldas “Puerta del Norte de Caldas” for being the first municipality of this region of the department.
Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since June 25, 2011.
Neira has a population close to 31,000 inhabitants, of which more than half are in the rural area, dedicated mainly to the production of sugar cane, avocado, citrus, cattle and coffee, the latter product being the most emblematic and the most important, economically and culturally for the municipality and livelihood of more than 4,000 families; has brought development and employment for generations. The Territory that includes the municipality ranges from 800 meters above sea level to 4,500 meters above sea level with fertile soil for agricultural production and with great biodiversity and abundant water sources, such as the imposing Guacaica River. It limits to the northwest with the municipality of Quinchía, to the north with those of Filadelfia and Aranzazu, to the northeast with Salamina, to the east with Marulanda, to the south with Manizales, and to the west with Anserma.
